The creation of interesting sounds has always intrigued me. Studying and playing fretless bass sent me down a rabbit hole and got me interested in experimental music gear. I got lost in effects pedals, synths, and drum machines. When I learned about modular, I was hooked quickly.
Eurorack (a form factor of modular synthesizers) has been at the center of my attention since 2019, when I got Make Noise’s System Cartesian. Slowly over the next few years, I expanded my collection of modules, many of which were inspired by the modules created by Don Buchla for the legendary Buchla synthesizers.
In addition to Eurorack, Strega is another piece of gear that is near to my heart. It’s a small, self contained semi-modular synthesizer created by Make Noise and pioneering musician Alessandro Cortini. It’s extremely rewarding to find interesting spaces and textures with such a compact and engaging instrument.
